Bakers Landing

Quality. Bakers Landing is the ultimate example of expertly melding historic elements and preservation with the needs of today’s homebuyer. LJA’s pivotal involvement with this project included planning, approval, and creative design integration.

Formerly the site of Pearland Airport, Bakers Landing was named to recognize and remember the previous owners, the Baker family. Homebuilder D.R. Horton engaged LJA to develop an overall layout for the site which met all City of Pearland requirements for a planned development. With more than 230 single family homes and townhomes, LJA was integral in the planning process that led to the approval of the proposed development and a creative plan that allowed for integrated commercial tracts.

Monument signage incorporated the old airport’s runways as design elements and is accented by water features and dense plantings. The large open air pavilion overlooks the stepped seatwalls and leads to a deck with a resplendent view of the amenity pond and its multiple fountains. The primary playground features the airport theme as well, with historic interpretive panels to reinforce the relationship of nature and the land’s prior use. Over 2.5 miles of sidewalks and trails traverse the 4-acre preserved area topped with an extensive canopy of mature trees. Bakers Landing was developed hand-in-hand not only with DR Horton, but also with the City of Pearland and the neighboring community to be one of the most highly lauded new developments in the Pearland/Main Street/SH 35 area.
