Rail Siding Extension

Innovation. LJA was engaged to provide engineering services for one of CSX Transportation’s highest profile projects. Due to its complexity and the large number of stakeholders involved, LJA was positioned to lead the team and provide full design and construction phase services in addition to subconsultant coordination. The project was completed on schedule utilizing innovative and collaborative technical solutions.

LJA provided design and bid documents, as well as construction support services for 33,400 FT of siding including track, drainage, grade crossing, and structures. A large retaining wall, crash wall, and associated drainage structures were critical components of the project. A 70′ steel concrete deck bridge and a 90′ through plate girder bridge, designed using internal and external team resources with no established design criteria, posed challenges on this project. Additional challenges included working with the client to minimize property acquisition on federal and private lands and working with the geotechnical subconsultant to resolve issues with the extreme rock cuts and fills in the mountainous terrain. The LJA team coordinated with the client’s designated representatives and subconsultants of multiple disciplines for environmental permitting, signal, power, utilities, and public projects.
