Norfolk & Portsmouth Belt Line Railroad (NPBL) Virginia Yard Expansion

Innovation. The NPBL Virginia Yard Expansion affects several stakeholders including the owner, community, neighboring property owners, and public entities. LJA’s engineering design provides for efficiency and minimal maintenance associated with the planned improvements, while minimizing negative impacts to the area and adjacent property owners.

The NPBL Virginia Yard Expansion provides for a new private roadway while improving drainage and eliminating two private at-grade crossings within the NPBL Yard. This modification allows for significantly improved railroad operations and switching movements. The new roadway will eliminate wait times for property owners to cross the tracks. Thoughtful engineering allowed for minimal impacts to the rail yard and train operations.
