Taxiway NA at George Bush Intercontinental Airport

Responsiveness. The LJA team completed analysis and design of drainage supporting the reconstruction of a primary taxiway at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on time even with the accelerated schedule imposed by an FAA grant funding the project. Further adding to the project’s challenges was the requirement to eliminate or minimize closures of high speed taxiways during the construction phase. We were able to accommodate the fast-tracked schedule by continually reviewing construction progress and adjusting in the field as needed.

The project included the upgrade, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of Taxiway NA 1 at George Bush Intercontinental Airport to support accommodation for larger aircraft including the Boeing 777 and Airbus 380. The project team diligently maintained ongoing operations by performing alternate analyses to allow re-routing of existing storm sewers, thus negating the need to bore under existing taxiway paving. This time and cost-saving measure served to maintain project continuity and kept the rehabilitation moving forward.
