Our Goal
The primary goal for the I-95 and SR 200 interchange was to re-engineer a high-pressure regional gateway to meet the demands of modern traffic volume and safety standards. Our transportation team sought to eliminate the persistent bottlenecks and safety hazards inherent in the original traditional interchange by implementing a high-efficiency Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) configuration.
Beyond immediate congestion relief, the goal was to create a resilient infrastructure asset capable of serving as a high-capacity hurricane evacuation route while supporting the long-term economic expansion of Northeast Florida.
The LJA Roadmap
As the first Diverging Diamond Interchange in Northeast Florida, this award-winning project required a specialized approach. LJA was responsible for the comprehensive design of all Signing and Pavement Markings, developed specifically to guide motorists through the new crossover patterns and complex lane shifts.
Our design integrated advanced overhead guide signs, strategic regulatory signage, and high-visibility directional markings to support the interchange’s unique traffic flow. By prioritizing visual continuity and precise taper transitions, we ensured that drivers could intuitively and safely adapt to the new DDI configuration.
