Internships

What To Expect During Your Internship

An internship with LJA is a minimum of eight weeks, beginning in mid-late May. During your time with LJA, you will learn about the sectors within LJA – Land Development, Transportation, Central Texas Infrastructure, Public Works, Energy, Environmental, Surveying, and Rail. In addition to these robust sectors, we also have an in-house Corporate Division that includes Marketing, Accounting, Human Resources, Facilities and Real Estate Management, and Information Technology opportunities.

  • Attend social events and activities dependent on your office location, such as our annual Houston Astros Day Out or Top Golf events.
  • Grow your corporate and professional skills by receiving AutoCAD and Office365 training.
  • Join in on Q&A sessions with company leadership.
  • Enjoy brown bag lunches, where leaders and mentors share advice about success in their respective fields.
  • Attend site visits and meetings with clients for day-to-day business exposure.

Over the course of my internship at LJA, I was able to work with so many incredible people and on several eye-opening projects. From project managers to graduate engineers, everyone was down-to-earth and helpful. Being my first internship, the group I worked with really set the standard for what a healthy office environment looks like. And I can truly say that this internship has been an incredible experience.

ESOP

ESOP OVERVIEW

The LJA ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) is an employee-owner program that can help you generate wealth and provides employees with a stake in LJA’s success. Based on the success of LJA’s prior year, a contribution is made to the employee-owner’s ESOP account.

ESOP VESTING

ach year, employees may have an increase in their ESOP account due to a change in value of LJA stock. Additionally, LJA’s ESOP plan vests at 20% each year, meaning after each year of service 20% of the funds are the employees and after five years of employment 100% of the funds are the employees. Months worked during an internship can count toward the ESOP vesting period.

ESOP VS. 401K

A 401k match is an employer’s contribution, matching a portion of the funds the employee contributes. An ESOP contribution is 100% provided by LJA. LJA employee-owners do not need to contribute funds to the ESOP to get an employer contribution.
