LJA Surveying has a long-standing commitment to the Klein ISD Survey & Mapping program. Heather Sides, Vice President, was instrumental in helping this school get a survey program started.
“I have been on the CTE (Career & Technical Education) Advisory Board at Klein ISD for years. As they learned about our profession, we have been able to setup a program at Klein Collins High School where students will be able to graduate high school with an Associate’s Degree and be certified as a CST – Level 1 (Certified Survey Technician). We have partnered with NSPS (National Society of Professional Surveyors) to be able of offer these students a discounted rate for the exam registration.
I have enjoyed working with Klein ISD and TSPS Chapter 9 to support this initiative. As we move from the start-up phase to expanding this program and mentorship , our work with Klein is really only beginning.
LJA Surveying will continue to be involved in Career Days, Job Shadowing, Internships, and Instructional opportunities with the Geospatial Engineering and Land Surveying program.“ ~Heather Sides, Vice President
This year, we were also able to work with the TEA to get this program recognized by the state so other schools can start the program in their locations.
We recently hosted a job shadowing day for these students with special speakers and hands-on activities to showcase our amazing profession. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and played a part in making this day possible. The kids – and let’s be honest, we did too – had a blast!
